JAMES FREEDLAND

James Freedland is a top communications strategist with nearly 20 years of experience in local, state, and federal campaigns across political, non-profit, and corporate sectors.
Named one of City & State's 40 Under 40, James has appeared on television and radio networks such as NY1, WNYC, WPIX, and CBS. He has also overseen the placement of millions of dollars in digital, television, and radio advertising.
Previously, James served as Director of Communications and Strategic Initiatives for the Office of the New York State Attorney General, where he managed communications operations, policy development, media outreach, strategic initiatives, speechwriting, and rapid response.
Since 2018, James has played a key role in six winning congressional and U.S. Senate campaigns. His work also includes managing communications for Brooklyn District Attorney Ken Thompson's successful 2013 campaign and Congressman Charles Rangel’s final competitive re-election in 2014. Additionally, James has provided strategic services to the New York State Democratic Party.
Originally from Michigan, James holds a B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College and a Master’s degree in Public Policy from Harvard University. He lives in New York City and Stockholm, Sweden.
